Alzheimer’s and Dementia Related Disorders
Frene Valley is committed to a philosophy that allows residents to preserve their dignity and maintain their freedom of choice. Our Precious Memories Alzheimer’s Special Care Unit is designed to do just that—respect your loved one, while providing round-the-clock care for their specific needs.
When choosing a facility with a Special Care unit, there are some key elements to observe: Do the residents look comfortable with the staff? Does the staff regularly interact with the residents? Are residents sitting alone in their rooms, or are they interacting with each other? Does everyone have good hygiene, and are the floors and walls clean? These are some details that can alert you to poor levels of care, and even neglect.
Frene Valley strives to maintain a high level of “quality of life” for its residents. Our staff encourages residents to socialize, participate in the many activities scheduled on a daily basis, and take walks in the garden as often as they want. We’re happiest when our residents are smiling and enjoying themselves.
If your loved one is suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia and needs regular assistance, make sure the facility you choose has appropriate safeguards in place, such as secured entrances and exits, attentive observation, and easy access to call lights. Ask about monitoring systems and prescription policies.
The most important thing you can do is to be active in your loved one’s care and well-being. Ask plenty of questions and take your time to make observations before making decisions. For more information on the kinds of details to consider, take a look at our brochure.
